Sunchica Unevska is a journalist and film critic, who has worked in many media from
1989 until today, covering all current topics in culture, as well as problematic topics and social
issues. Starting with the daily newspaper “Republika”, where she worked in the Cultural section,
then in the agency “Makpress”, then as a journalist-freelancer in the political weekly “Pulse”. In
the early 1990s, she began writing for the film theory, history and culture magazine “Kinopis”,
then for the “Cultural Life”, magazine for culture, arts, film and social affairs, then for the
“Macedonian Review”, a magazine for history, culture and literature, as well as for the electronic
magazine “Flash”.

In 2000, for the Austrian magazine “Springerin”, she covered the conference on the topic
“Understanding the Balkans” held in Ohrid, and for the Bulgarian magazine “Kino” she appeared
as a correspondent for the Macedonian film and culture. From 1999 to 2016 she worked in the
daily newspaper “Utrinski Vesnik”, in which writes about all topics of culture, has done a huge
number of interviews with domestic and foreign authors, and writes film and theater reviews and
regularly reports from major film festivals around the world, including the largest, Venice,
Cannes and Berlin. As a longtime representative of Macedonia in the International Association
of Film Critics “Fipresci”, she has participated in several international juries of film festivals
around the world, including: Bratislava, Cairo, Motovun, Valladolid, Istanbul, Sofia, Tallinn,
Berlin, Vienna and others.


Since 2016, she is the founder and editor of the first and only monthly film magazine in
Macedonia, FILM PLUS (FILM+). Also, she is the author of the brochure “10 Laureates at
Asterfest”, and since 2015 she has published four books dedicated to the film, namely “The
Seventh Seal”, a book with reviews for international films, then “Macedonian Saga”, a book with
reviews for the Macedonian films, covering for the first time in her country the Macedonian
creation of independent Macedonia, the book “Film Giants” with interviews of some of the most
important film authors of today and the last one, published in 2021, “Ghost in a Shell”, again
with reviews of international films, conceptualized thematically.


Due to her experience and many years of work, she was invited by the BBC to
participate in the selection of the best films in the history of world cinema made by women
directors, and for three years at the invitation of the Arab Film Center she participated in

international juries composed of the most eminent film critics in world, in the selection of the
best Arabic films.


Unevska has also worked at numerous film festivals, as follows: for two years she
worked as a media coordinator of the German Film Festival in Skopje and as a program
coordinator and selector of the European Film Festival “Cinedays”. For five years she was the
selector of the program “New Visions” at the International Cinematographers Film Festival
“Manaki Brothers” in Bitola, which she established, and as a selector worked at the festival
“Asterfest” in Strumica and at the Skopje Film Festival. Four years she was also the selector for
Macedonia at the Film festival in Motovun, Croatia, and in 2015 she founded the first
International engaged film festival, “Ohrid Film Festival”.
